Seeking a change in the title of his movie, Bezawada Rowdeelu, the Bezawada Bar Association has decided to launch a legal battle against the film’s director Ramgopal Varma.
Speaking to newsmen here on Thursday, Bar Association president Chalasani Ajaykumar said Varma had studied in Vijayawada and emerged a successful film director. But the title of his movie, Bezawada Rowdeelu, would tarnish the image of the peaceful city of Vijayawada, he said and asked Varma to change the film’s title immediately. Senior advocate and Sarvodaya Mandali convener Naraharisetti Srihari said Bar Association members would launch a legal struggle against Ramgopal Varma if he did not change the film’s title. Advocates submitted memoranda to chief minister N Kirankumar Reddy and commissioner of police M Madhusudana Reddy in this regard, he said.
The advocate said that senior advocate P Gowtam Reddy had already filed a petition in the High Court seeking a direction to Ramgopal Varma to change the title of his movie, and the court issued notices to the state and central governments.
The Bar Association leaders made it clear that they would also lodge a complaint with the film censor board seeking a change in the film’s title.
When Ramgopal Varma was shooting some violent scenes of the movie at the Kaleswara Rao Market, Sarvodaya Mandali members and some advocates took up the matter with the then commissioner of police Amit Garg, complaining that such scenes might revive old rivalries and instigate fresh violence. Garg then ordered the movie unit to stop shooting violent scenes which might cause a law and order problem. He also asked the movie unit to submit the movie script for scrutiny for getting clearance for the second phase of shooting.
The production unit shifted the scene of second phase of shooting to the Krishna river bed on the Tadepalli side in Guntur district.
